80th birthday
The High Peak Reporter October 28th 1922 80th Birthday Celebration. An interesting little function took place at the "Victoria" lodge of the R.O.A.B. held at the Queens Arms Hotel on Wednesday, Bro Bird has just attained his 80th birthday and members made him a presentation to mark that auspicious event.Brother Whitehead R O H handed to the veteran a handsome silver snuffbox suitably inscribed. He made a felicitous speech and wished Bro Bird many happy returns Bro Bird responded in well-chosen words and thanked the members for their generosity and kindly thoughts.

The death of Mr Bird
The High Peak Reporter March 3rd 1923. The death occurred on Friday morning of Mr Daniel Bird of Albion Road, New Town, New Mills. Mr Bird had reached the age of four score years. For many years he was employed in the mechanical department of the Manchester Guardian whilst residing in Manchester. Mr Bird took great interest in the R.A.O.B. and has continued to do so since coming to live in New Mills. Mr Bird has made many friends by whome he was greatly respected. He was a widower and leaves a family of three sons and one daughter. We had that last October at the Victoria Lodge of the R.A.O.B. Mr Bird was the recipient of a shuff box and illuminated address when he attained his 80th birthday. Daniel died on Friday morning the 23rd of February 1923 and was buried Monday 26 February at New Mills.
