Charles was an office boy in 1871 living with his family at 5 Oxford Street, Market Rasen.

Charles was serving in the "Fourth (Q.D.) Hussars" at the time of the 1881 Census.

Charles moved to Walsall sometime between November 1882 and June 1884 based on the birthplaces of his children although there must have still been a connection with Lincolnshire given George's place of death. At the time of Birth of the children George and Florence Pretoria, Charles was a Harness Maker then Saddler. Walsall's main industry around this time was leatherwork.

Charles first first wife was Louisa Kate (Catherine) Flintham nee Balderstones and was married in Kensington in Jun Q 1883 (Ref Kensington 1a 67) She died in Walsall in Decmeber Q 1901 (Ref Walsall 6b 435) aged40.

Charles remarried in Dec Q 1903 (ref Walsall 6b 1326) His new wife was Hetty Eliza Johnson (B 18/03/1871) in Stretton on Dunsmore, Warwickshire). They had no further children but Hetty cared for the children of the first marriage. They had a shop in thePalfrey area of Walsall. Charles is said to have gone to theUSA and left Hetty with his children.

There is a photo of Hetty and Charles outside of their shopwhich sold bread an milk. The reverse of the photo is a postcard dated 31/12/1905.

Charles had a military background and encouraged his stepson, Wesley (Son of Hetty) to join the Army. Wesley was gassed in WW1 and was never healthy again. Charles son's Frank and John were both killed in the war. There is a Frank Flintham who was a private in the 4th (Queen's Own) Hussars and died 10/08/1918. His service number was 4078 and he was buried at Plachy-BuyonCommunal Cemetery, Somme, France. Frank was married and expecting a child at the time of his death.

John Flintham was a private in the 7th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. His servicenumber was 35994 and he died 03/10/1917. He is listed on theTyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West Vlanderen panel 90-92 and162-162a.
