Misc. Notes
George owned The Grange at Metheringham and was known as "The Alderman"
George worked as a blacksmith and married Ruth ? George was very wealthy and in later life owned land on Martin Moor and also the Grange in Metheringham where he lived. He became anAlderman of Lincoln. He was a retailer of vegetables and straw.Ruth died aged 60 in 1942 and George remarried Muriel ?. Itis largely believed in the family that George in some way swindled his brothers and sisters out of land/money that should have rightfully been shared, but these are only stories. Nobody can produce any evidence.

Well, George's early family certainly didn't appear to be wealthy, his parents rented their home off Lord Londsborough’s estate and his grandparents James and Jane ended up in the "lunatic hospital" and the workhouse! You'll notice George's siblings all had very simple lives, working hard for a living. Brother Matthew was my husbands gr grandad, he worked for Lord Londsborough most of his life as a gamekeeper, then chauffeur and a kind of personal assistant. Lord Londsborough had epilepsy and had to have someone with him all the time to keep an eye out and that for quite a while was Matthew. The story in our family passed down from Matthew is there was some kind a feud with George, the rest of the family did not get on with him as he had in his possession land or money that was rightfully the whole family's. I think William (dad) managed to purchase a small piece of land on Martin Moor which was passed down. This land was commissioned by the government during the war for the airbase. After the war nobody had any money and were unable to purchase the land back.... apart from George who went into a partnership with a man called Scoley who provided the cash. The rest you know. The rest of the family were very bitter.George went from strength to strength and even became an Alderman of Lincoln. Many people here believe his actual name was Alderman Flintham!! George married twice but did not have any children with his wives. Rumour has it he fathered a child with Mrs Scoley hence the reason the name Flintham remains on the land, but that is just speculation. I'm sure more info would be available,it's just finding the right person and time to ask. I notice they have a farm at Bracebridge Heath too.
Hope this helps
Jane
