Dorothy was born in hospital, possibly Stepping Hill and lived first at Disley Street, Edgeley.

Dorothy moved to 35 Barnfield Road West when she was approximately 12-14 months old (1939) to what is thought to have been a brand new corporation house. Her Godmother was Irene Horton.

Dorothy attended Adswood Primary School and later attended Greek Street High School. Dorothy was selected to plant a tree outside Adswood school with a local councillor.

Dorothy worked in an office at Hallam's electrical where she met Kenneth Henry Flintham who was an electrician. She also worked at Edwin Plants on Portwood wholesale corn Merchants and ran the shop for a while. She left Plants when she became pregnant with Gordon.

The wedding between Dorothy and Kenneth Henry Flintham was due to take place on 29/1/1958 but was postponed because Dorothy had appendix operation. (Newspaper clipping in scrapbook).
